Analog
Conceptualized within this wicked storm of political and social change as a material response to internet culture and the alienation that comes from being caught in the constant flow of ever-changing information. Reimagining the ubiquitous digital world from an analog (and therefor arguably human) perspective becomes a spiritual act, drawing solace from the ‘perfectly imperfect’ rawness of the occupying senses in color, texture, smell and ultimately, the human touch. The element of nostalgia in each interpretation, though predictable, prioritizes slowing down for the concepts and processes: and ultimately raising a human voice in a sea of generative AI.

Louis Trautman “jpeg is a Lossy File Type” Assortment of 43 Images, 2016 NFS
The intent of “.jpg is a Lossy File Type” was to archive a selection of digital images (specifically JPEGs, which are by nature “lossy,” or degradative) using analog methods of photo printing to assure their longevity, thus underlining how digital information can feel brittle or fragile.
