When creating a show, I paint the entire body of work and then I title the painting series upon completion. This has become a tradition in my process where title of the show brings the work into focus.

‘The Places I Know’ describes a series of places that have both personal and universal appeal. These are places that are deeply connected to my life - places that I have perceived directly. They are images born from the unconscious, and the recognition of past experiences.

As I painted this series I also found myself listening to Hawksley  Workman’s ‘Almost a Full Moon.’ For me this particular song describes the passing of time, the changing of the seasons, the connection to community and family. It is a place that I know. Aaron (my husband) and I sing this song to our children everyday when we put them to bed.

So, as I painted the places I know, I found Hawksley Workman’s lyrics and images weaving together with my own memories, and mixing together colours, sounds, senses in an almost dreamlike array of times and places.
