Casey McGlynn "Portraits of the Artist as a Young Man"

$7,200.00

60” x 48” Mixed Media on Canvas 1998

Casey McGlynn’s work exists at the intersection of memory and myth, where personal experience transforms into something universally resonant. His canvases pulse with imagery drawn from daily life: animals, birds from his studio window, numbers from memorized math times tables, pop culture references, and archival imagery, all rendered in a distinctive surrealist pop aesthetic. McGlynn builds his compositions like visual patchworks, layering paint and mixed media onto textured surfaces that echo everything from traditional quilting to underground comics. The result is art that feels simultaneously chaotic and intimate, delivered with what critic Gary Michael Dault described as “warm and compassionate abandon.” These are paintings that tell stories while leaving room for viewers to write themselves into the narrative.

Born in Tilsonburg, Ontario, McGlynn studied Interdisciplinary Studies at the Ontario College of Art and Design before carving out his unique voice as a largely self-directed artist. His exhibition history spans nearly thirty years across three continents, with career highlights including a comprehensive retrospective at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art in 2005. Today his work enriches both private homes and institutional collections throughout North America, with recent acquisitions by major collectors including the HBC Global Art Collection in New York. We are delighted to represent Casey McGlynn at our gallery.
