Marcia Harris, based in Calgary, Alberta, is best known for landscapes. Her choice of subject is largely motivated by colour, light, and shadow. Through a distinct use of these elements and a painterly approach, Harris' expressive vitality provokes an alternative perception of familiar urban spaces.
Harris was born in Gaspe, Quebec. She graduated in 2004 with distinction from University of British Columbia Okanagan Fine Arts Program, majoring in painting, with a minor in drawing, screen-printing and photography. Harris has shown extensively across Western Canada, with major exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Calgary, The Kelowna Art Gallery and a selection of fine art galleries in Alberta and BC. Her work can be found in the permanent collection of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and private and corporate collections across Canada, the United States, and Europe.
